Microsoft Windows Server 2019 offers new features for cloud environments. It includes a redesigned Windows Admin Centre to help users switch to the cloud easily. Security is enhanced with features like shielded virtual machines, Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection, and Defender Exploit Guard.

Windows Server 2019 focuses on four key areas. Here’s a brief look at each one.

Hybrid: With Windows Server 2019 and Windows Admin Centre, it becomes easier to connect on-premises environments to Azure. Windows Admin Centre also simplifies the use of Azure services such as Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery, allowing customers to add more services over time.

Security: Elevating security is a top priority for many customers, and we aim to help them improve their security setup. Windows Server 2016 began this work, and Windows Server 2019 continues to enhance those features. It includes shared security tools with Windows 10, such as Defender ATP for servers and Defender Exploit Guard.

Application Platform: Containers are growing in popularity as developers and operations teams recognise their benefits. Our efforts since Windows Server 2016, including various updates in the Semi-Annual Channel, have led to advances in Windows Server 2019. This includes support for Linux containers on Windows, improvements to the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), and smaller container images.

Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI): If you’re looking to improve your physical or host server setup, consider HCI. This model combines computing, storage, and networking into a single unit. This approach lowers costs while enhancing performance, scalability, and reliability.

We’ve also worked on reducing the size of container images to boost performance. Server Core containers are now a third of their original size. We improved app compatibility and added support for Kubernetes and Linux containers on Windows.
